Everyone needs a job. Well, at least almost everyone except the Bill Gates and Warren Buffett crowd. But for the huddled masses we typically get up, go to work, come home, go to bed, rinse and repeat daily without every asking ourselves if we are on the winning end of the deal.
Having been a human resources and organizational leader for 30 years I have not only WATCHED people take the wrong job but I have participated in taking the wrong job. Don’t get me wrong. I had an amazing career which led me to Vice President jobs with some great and some not so great companies.
But along the way I had the fortune of studying and learning from thousands of people looking for a job and thousands of people hiring those people for the jobs. The skills, the tricks of the trade, the real low-down of how companies hire are rarely articulated and never put down in writing.
